Remember that in Australia, the government denies A LOT of FOIA requests, so I wouldn't read into a denial too much.

Space elevators are a cool sci-fi idea.

If "AI" are people, then I guess deleting a file is the same as murder.

"AI developers working under humans."
"AI" are not people, they don't "work" in any way like humans do -.-

I'm not going to name names here, because frankly, I don't care for Internet drama.

Show thread

So, uh, I've been looking at a few Bluesky profiles (although, I haven't spent a lot of time on that), and wow, quite a bit of drama.

Show thread

It is pretty ugly to see the "co-founder" of a company sit around on Bluesky seemingly trying to smear competing websites.

I mean, I'm sure he does good work to make sure that people's free expression is protected, but it's interesting how even here, in a policy discussion, sex seems to be taboo to talk about.

Show thread

eff.org/pages/speaking-freely- This is interesting but doesn't tell us anything about sexual expression.

Even if it was extended a tad beyond "SFW", I don't think it would make a difference to the point in my post. Hype.

The Japanese Parliament (called the "Diet") has two houses. The House of Representatives (lower) and the House of Councilors (upper).

Financial censorship was mentioned in a committee in the Japanese House of Representatives.

Seeing Japanese discourse that is critical of using "AI" powered search engines.

He seems to be going into things this time with the assumption that Australia is some sort of fascist state that arrests people left and right for ridiculous things.

And maybe, Australia does have human rights issues, particularly in how the legislature words language in statutes or "guidelines", or that "social media ban for minors".

And transparency is important. FOIA requests which peel the curtain back a bit on the government are important.

But, I think it's premature to make these kinds of assumptions about the government.

He makes stronger claims then he waters them down.

To tell you a short tale, I was thinking of something he said one day (this was a few months ago), and I decided I would check up on it, and it wasn't there.

Show thread

It looks like Malcolm quietly edited one of his articles from last year -.-

This is why I want to see those FOIA requests. I think these will probably be fine though.

There was a bit of concern trolling about a bad actor who misused a site a couple of years ago (and has since been convicted, it seems).

A number of these sites being hit by financial censorship have nothing to do with user generated content (and it would be a wildly disproportionate response for a site with many millions of users).

Trolls have been a community mod's enemy since forever but these Twitter trolls are quite something.

Show thread

A troll is someone who says provocative things with the intention of getting a reaction out of people.

Show thread

One possibility is that with so many people becoming inactive (perhaps, due to things like the "verified accounts" curbing the value of the site), the trolls are becoming more prominent and are trying to say more "shocking" things.
