LC connectors are held together with a little plastic clip, so you can disassemble and zip apart patch cables to build a pair of fiber loops for testing optics.

One of those things that is totally useless right up until the moment when you need one. So nice to sit down and build a pair and throw them in your DC toolbox.

@rishi556 Another good tool for DC toolboxes is that you can get IR phosphor cards on eBay for like $15!

While they're not as good as an actual light meter for troubleshooting light issues in single mode fiber, this at least lets you see if there's anything there or not, which isn't possible otherwise for 1310nm optics.
