For a long time now - years - I've felt that my phone had become an end, instead of a means. Even though I don't actually do much with my phone, I didn't like how it became the default thing to pull out whenever I had nothing to do. So, I'm changing things up.

I used to do the following things with my phone:

1) Social media. Since I don't use Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, etc.,my social media means exclusively Fedi. That's ending now. Fedi use will be strictly full PC/laptop from now on, during work time when I use it to find cool stories. I removed all my Fedi apps, and will just use the website from now on.

2) Lemmy (used to be Reddit). Lemmy sucks ass. Won't miss it, and barely used it anyway.

3) Browsing (mostly to find OSNews stories). This should be done during work hours, not anytime else.

4) My favourite Bejeweled clone. This I will continue to play. Do not come between me and my jewels.

5) Messaging with my wife, family, and friends/taking and sharing photos. This will also continue. Obviously.

6) Email, exclusively for work. Will be a PC-only thing during work hours from now on.

For the rest, my phone will not be with me. It will be in the house of course, but just on a cupboard or whatever instead of with me.

In order to travel by buss I am forced to bring a mobile phone nowadays (with Google account as they exclusively offer the app via the Google play store). From the busses themself they no longer sell tickets. And the nearest bus stop ticket machine happens to be 10 kilometers away. As I refuse to have a Google account I often travel for free. The buss drivers aren't happy with it, bu still haven't refused me. Crazy but true.

So I wonder for how long you can leave your house without mobile phone. I shall not become easier every year.

Besides: Same goes for banking apps that seemingly can't be offered as an apk via their own website. More and more everybody is forced to have a Google account.
