It makes me sad to hear 'tech commentators' on RNZ talk about using WhatsApp rather than something better, like Signal, Matrix, or something XMPPy. It makes me question their credibility (certainly with regard to security & privacy!) if they look no further than the #FrightfulFive's offerings and accept the massive compromises their use requires. Makes them seem oblivious.

@post sure, but with FB's full monitoring, even though it's claimed to be E2EE... because, don't forget, in addition to the middle, they control both ends too. Can't have a surveillance capitalist business model without building surveillance into your flagship products.
