South African authorities asked Putin not to come to the BRICS summit because no one likes an old man to come

#putin #PutinWarCriminal

@post I'm afraid you understand something wrong. The SA considers the ICC arrest warrant against Putin very seriously, that is why they discuss the issue so much, and that is what described in sources you linked.

> South Africa will welcome Putin just *like many other African countries a few weeks ago*

This looks like a direct lie, bc Putin didn't visited any African country last years.

@VGM

Sorry it's Sergei Lavrov, their Foreign Minister, that visited many African countries recently, that is basically the same of welcoming Putin.

@post No, it's completely not the same, as the ICC didn't issue an arrest warrant against Lavrov.

@VGM

Let's wait and see. I suspect SA cares more about their agreements with BRICS countries than a Western court that not even the US recognize

@post The US are not a member of the Rome Statute, but the SA is.

@VGM

I know but South Africa is unlikely to screw up its relationship with the BRICS countries to get absolutely nothing as Putin is certainly not going to get himself arrested and even if they set a trap, Russia would declare war on whoever try to arrest him

@post As well as SA is unlikely to screw up its relationship with other states who are members of the Rome Statute. That is why the best thing SA can do is to ask Putin to not visit SA. And I'm sure Putin will not visit SA, as he is a famous coward.

@VGM

The other countries of the Rome Statute don't give a damn. The BRICS have natural resources, are becoming financially independent and have been growing in terms of industry and infrastructure for decades. There is no way for Western countries to blackmail them: they are becoming a magnet for many other countries fed up with US/UK hegemony, such as Iran or Mexico.

These countries don't give a damn about "international" institutions, they only recognize individual nations. Look for example how China treated Macron well because he represents France and how they treated Von Der Leyen who represents nothing for them.
