Gitter is going fully native Matrix in Feb 2023: blog.gitter.im/2023/01/16/gitt

Can we please stop using Discord and Telegram now for open-source communities?

I discover the term "fauxpen source" for software claiming to be open source but lying.

"Open source" [wrong and stupid and marketing] label was created by Christine Peterson 3 february 1998.

From Settings > Features you can disable the journal.

The default page will be Contents but it can be changed from config.edn.

@liampomfret

I guess you know that Australia was part of PRISM by NSA as revealed by Edward Snowden, right?

And do you know which country gives him asylum? Russia... otherwise he would end up like Julian Assange for revealing war crimes in Iraq and stuff like that... ah and Assange is Australian...

But the problem is Russia (and Telegram has never been located there anyway)...

@liampomfret You and/or the linked @wired “journalist” could have researched a bit.
The founders of telegram fled Russia in 2014, after having had to hand over their “VK” network (a successful Facebook like social network).
Telegram is situated in virgins islands & operates from Dubai.

Telegram does not encrypt messages per default…you have to create “secure chats”. All other communication is plain text.

But hey - of course, as Russians, they are all evil per se, right?
🤮

@bugaevc @sesivany @cassidy @signalapp @philbaker1

Compare this to Signal, that is hostile even to non-official third party clients and theirs are very bad!

Signal getting mentioned only because of e2ee that is an option on Telegram... oh it's not the default and not full featured (Signal is not featured anyway)!

At this point forget Signal and only mention Matrix.

@bugaevc @sesivany @cassidy @signalapp @philbaker1

Also this Telegrand native app for GNOME is only possible because Telegram developed TDlib, which Telegrand is based on, and they even provided a reference implementation in Telegram X. It's stated even into the README you linked.

What the hell does Telegram have to do? They developed very good **native clients** for 5 major platforms and even provided a library so that everyone can build their own!

@bugaevc @sesivany @cassidy @signalapp @philbaker1

Telegram Desktop is based on QtWidgets (not even QML).

GNOME ≠ the whole Linux/Freedesktop platform.

I wish GNOME snobbery was a stereotype but if you call "native" only what uses GNOME tech and guidelines...

@rmdes

Let's say you want to implement welfare state policies but you realize you need to change ECB statute since it can't fund public deficits like in every other sovereign nation or federation. How do you change that?

People think you can change the EU with European Parliament elections, but instead the way EU institutions like ECB works can only be changed with unanimity of **national governaments**.

This means states that benefit from a mercantilist policy (Germany) will never allow to change it for the sake of other countries.

Same of a lot of other important issues.

Also, the European Parliament is the only parliament in the world history that has no legislative power. The European Commission (sort of governament/administration) has that power and the Parliament can only block (and not always) the directives (~laws) by the Commission.

The EU is not a democracy for technical reasons.

EU chat control law will ban open source operating systems

>The proposed Chat control EU law will not only seize totalitarian control of all private communication. It will also ban open source operating systems as an unintended consequence.

Hilarious to see the US media getting all chest thumpy and how-dare-they over the supposed Chinese high altitude spy balloon when for decades the US has sought to do nothing more than flat-bed scan the entire planet.

I mean this is the launch patch of one of the top secret NROL programs, launched under Obama

That “throw everything in a running daily journal” should really be removed from official documentation though, it feels so wrong now that I am used to Logseq and I think it gives new users the idea that it's a preferred approach, while Logseq really makes you free to implement many different workflows.

I even have different graphs with very different workflows and as someone said: "in Logseq ambuiguity is a feature", you decide how its very general tools apply everytime you use them.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity

With Document Mode enabled (so hidden bullet points) and a look (maybe using custom CSS) that resemble a longform editor like Obsidian, what would be needed to make you consider Logseq valid for you? Just out of curiosity.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity

You can export it removing dashes and indentation :)

Even without Logseq, it is trivial to remove the first two columns of characters and turn the first level blocks into standard Markdown paragraphs.

@ellane @gizmo

FYI, you can enable Document Mode in using the `t d` shortcut. It will hide bullet points and you can style the page with different CSS, for example hiding block properties. This way if you want some pages to be long-form writings instead of outlines you can just enable DM and forget about indenting.

I know there is an Obsidian plugin that turns it into an outliner but it wouldn't have Logseq features that focus on blocks. Instead in Logseq the `t d` shortcut is very conventient to quickly go back to a long-form writing look when needed.

chatgpt nonsense, games

@alexm

It's supposed to produce plausible answers, not factually correct ones.

It's a good thing that people are starting to understand how these models work and that there is no real *understanding* nor *reasoning* under the hood.

Wow 😯 nice new and shiny website of #Logseq.
If you like taking notes, doing braindumps and structure knowledge, #pkm, give it a try. Highly recommended. OpenSource, markdown plaintext.

Btw. this time no cat pic. They also deserve some #privacy.
