Currently working on revisions of my first book chapter, and I'm feeling a bit torn. On the one hand, the broader format has made it the most enjoyable piece that I've written. On the other hand, it's taken a long time and I'm not sure it will be widely accessible.

So I thought I'd use my first Toot to ask two questions:

Writers: what do the more experienced folk think about writing book chapters?

Readers: do you get more from a chapter than a paper?

@damienfarine I love writing book chapters. You shouldn’t think of them as the same medium as a journal article. It’s an opportunity to write how you like, and there’s much more flexibility in terms of style. (YMMV, since I have a fairly whimsical style and often feel boxed in by the journal format). I always post book chapters to preprint servers, so they’re still accessible.
