I recently dug into PDF internals to try and understand how hyperlinks work. I discovered, much to my dismay and chagrin, that in PDFs hyperlinks are not connected to the printable text in any way other than the links are boxes rendered spatially on top of the text. So you can't just parse the text and pull out the links. And you can't connect the text with the link without rendering the document and figuring out what's on top of what. And is everyone at Adobe high all the time?
