@ares @ct_bergstrom @emilymbender craigslist is for-profit
@peterdrake Maybe we could use hashcash for new federations?
@davidslifka Think the right question is "What do we as the Fediverse community need to accomplish in order to avoid scaling by 10× or 100×, which would destroy everything good about the Fediverse?"
We’re hiring for a bunch of new roles! If you’re a developer, designer, or Zotero Expert, see if there’s a role that’s right for you: https://www.zotero.org/jobs
@tef hm?
@deshipu Maybe are struggling with different procrastination structure than I, but sounds like perfectionism. Sometimes can be a waste of time writing code before figure out how it should be done, but sometimes means that when you do figure out how it should be done, you have working code implementing it (working badly, but working).
@deshipu Write a lot of shitty code, knowing it's going to be shitty. Then discard it, because it's shitty, and write another pile of shitty code that does the same thing in a better way. Then figure out which shitty aspects of it are most important to improve, and improve it in those ways. This is a fast way to learn. It helps with motivation sometimes writing tests first.
So, I mentioned before how much I wish a foss widget maker for #Android was made, kinda like #conky or #rainmeter, and from there I went on a bit of a #ramble about widgets in FOSS apps in general, this and much more in today's #blogpost.

@drewharwell Why don't the Washington Post have their own Mastodon server yet if they want to flag their journalists' profiles as verified?
"Study: Over 50% of academics admit to pirating research papers
A majority of the survey respondents say they used websites like Sci-Hub to avoid paywalls by accessing illegal copies of research. "

@manniac So the way gossip protocols like scuttlebutt, nostr, earthstar, p2panda work is that they only show partial views of the network. So you're seeing that 5 people who use the default iris relay are following Jack. You can add more relays and you'll find there are many thousands of followers. It's different the way the fediverse is different from twitter.
@manniac Jack Dorsey's using Nostr, a scuttlebutt like decentralized protocol. https://iris.to/jack@cash.app
@rygorous Agree! What is wrong with people?
So Android 14 won't permit installation of apps whose Target SDK is Android 6 or below. Termux has been unable to update its app in the Google Play Store since 2020 because the Play Store demanded Target SDK level of 29 or above, which is Android 10: https://wiki.termux.com/wiki/Termux_Google_Play
Maybe around Android 18, Termux will stop working even if install it with F-Droid.
@lauren Yesterday downloaded dozens of videos with NewPipe, so doesn't affect me unless I want to look at something unexpected.
I read a lot. Sometimes I learn things. I like making things. I think reading and doing are complementary.
