@joey_zozo My personal favorite mathematician would have to be Edward Thorp. He showed that Blackjack could be turned into a winning game by card-counting. Then, in the 60s he exposed and exploited an arbitrage opportunity in the stock market created by the fact that people had no freaking clue how to price options back then lol. His work on the Kelly Criterion is also quite interesting, I wrote a paper on it back in high school.

@joey_zozo I never really got too deep into it but Apophysis is a cool program for creating fractal art. There are apparent connections between complex analysis and this sort of stuff but I never did get the chance to come across it in my class.
