@mafeesh
There are many who are monitoring the fascists surfacing worldwide. They're all playing off of each other while we're still busy trying to get the American press to notice.
I'm convinced we're going to have to spread our message ourselves. No more waiting for the press to spread the word.
We're fighting for democracy. That's a battle we can't afford to lose.
A fucking big deal.
My friend Evan #Gershkovich is no spy. Just a brave reporter jailed in moscow
by Pjotr Sauer
Extract
As the immediate media storm following his arrest passes, it will be of paramount importance to keep Evan in the spotlight and to push for his immediate release.
For years, Evan did everything he could to tell the story of modern russia. It is now our turn to keep the light shining on him. I want to have my friend back.

Wait a minute! No one mentioned #Asstodon to me? Nor #Saturbray ? Pulling this one from the files. A days-old Allie excited about her new life. #LifeOnTheFarm #Donkey
Sprained my ankle a couple days ago while walking dogs in the woods. Tripped over a stupid rock, ruptured one or two ligaments, and ate dirt. Farm hands were off at the bar, and I was in a cellular dead zone, so nobody could hear my pitiful calls for help. Ended up hobbling a mile back to the bunkhouse on pure chutzpah (and the fact that I knew there was a bottle of champagne on ice in the kitchen). My takeaway is this: always have a bottle of champagne chilling in your kitchen. You never know when it might save your life.
All of Evan Gershkovich’s reporting is now free to read on The #WSJ
He was arrested in russia while on a reporting trip and accused of spying, making him the first #American #journalist detained in russia on espionage charges since the Cold War.
His last article was
russia’s Economy Is Starting to Come Undone
Investment is down, labor is scarce, budget is squeezed. Oligarch: ‘There will be no money next year’

The IRS already has all your income tax data – so why do Americans still have to file their taxes? @TheConversationUS
This is super bad. This reckless ruling strikes down ALL US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations, which under ACA make them free without cost sharing for millions of Americans. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/texas-judge-blocks-obamacare-coverage-mandate-prep-cancer-screening-2023-03-30/?fbclid=IwAR3cy8psx7qTdsLZBvndMIh96EDXbiwyQ9YUUUrVQMHljM7IDyrSfl9K194
And culture war stories? Mostly, they fall apart on a local level.
It's harder to villainize your neighbors when they have the chance to tell their own stories.
It's one thing to read about trans people in Time Magazine, as a nebulous and far away concept, and another entirely to read a profile of the trans man who works at the coffee shop you visit every day, and who you've spoken kindly to every day for the last 4 years, talking about the death threats he receives from members of the church you attend.
One wonders if the scale insects get nervous when one of their neighbors suddenly collapses into a bloom of zombie fungus.

Tonight, I’m thinking of all those working in the U.S. Treasury Department. Many will work through the night to get a handle on how #CreditSuisse difficulties will affect U.S. banks. #banks #banking
Retired public health scientist who loves numbers. One of the highlights of my life was when my daughter counted to 270 on her EOY kindergarten evaluation. 🤣
I rarely (never?!) post. I used Twitter as a news source and continuing ed source. I very much appreciate all the historians and lawyers on twitter who have helped me understand....some history and law of the U.S.
I love emojis and dog pictures. :)
