A fantastic report by Brattle Group on the value of VPPs.

Heating water for potable use is the second largest demand for #energy in any structure with bedrooms and bathrooms. Most water heating systems in use today operate at 65%-85% efficiency. #heatpumpwaterheaters provide the same service while using ~25% of the energy (250%-300% efficiency) compared to any other method. A #HPWH system always includes hot water storage. In multifamily buildings, the hot water storage tanks are quite large; 800 gallons (3,028 liters) pairs with a 250,000btu/hr (73kW) HPWH. For Time of Use rate structures or #Demandresponse the HPWH can preheat using renewable energy during times of low grid demand, and remain off through the grid peaks. This combination of #efficiency and shiftable load provides massive #carbon emissions reductions and operational cost benefits to the occupants and the building owner.

We had a great crowd today at The Upper Midwest Home Performance Tradeshow and Conference. Eager energy professionals ready to take on #heatpumpwaterheaters

Given the importance of getting it right, I have to say it again: Okay, we are here #EnergyTwitter, but here, it is #EnergyMastodon
Okay, we are here #EnergyTwitter but here, it is #EnergyMastadon
I'm heading to Minneapolis to the Upper Midwest Regional Conference and Tradeshow to train efficiency minded HVAC and plumbing contractors on the benefits of #HeatPumpWaterHeater technology to combat #climatechange by eliminating emissions relating to water heating.
#Electrification experts across the country recognize the potential of HPWHs:
- Electric heat pump water heaters offer the only approach to heating water at an #efficiency greater than 100%.
- use 1/4th or less energy overall compared to #fossilgas
- larger storage inherent in HPWH systems allow the heat pump to remain off during utility peaks, which coincide with hot water demand, providing valuable #demandresponse capabilities
Hello there. I'm super excited to be here! Seeing the feed and layout here is pretty exciting.
