Of course, our amino acids are chiral (atoms are placed relative to each other in either a right-handed or left- orientation). And our enzymes also are chiral to allow us to process them. If your handedness flipped, you’d probably starve to death despite eating.

A sci-fi pastiche of the Hobbit, “There and Back Again,” has the conceit that going though a wormhole flips your chirality, switching your handedness down to the molecular level. Must be a non-orientable manifold.

In GR, we only work with orientable manifolds, ones where you can define a global Levi-Civita tensor. If you were walking around on a non-orientable manifold you could suddenly discover you had gone from being right-handed to left (or vice versa).
