Idea for a new video to film today: brief spiel about "why you should delete your #twitter account NOW before #elonmusk sells your data to white supremacists!", then record myself deleting my accounts.

What are the hardest hitting points I should put in that spiel? (though odds are if someone hasn't left Twitter yet, theyrenot gonna...)

I could also talk about alternatives, why/why not you should use them. Hive, post, bluesky, mastodon... What else is there? What should I say for or against them?

@toplesstopics technically the data is being sold to advertisers who may be but are likely not white supremacists. The data might be *leaked* to white supremacists/other bad actors, but that's a whole different thing that deleting your account may or may not protect you from.

I think a more compelling video might be one about why people should give alternatives a shot. As you mention, very few are making a hard switch and most who are have already done so. For everyone else, it's about "should I dip my toes in or not". Help them see why giving it a shot is worthwhile and then who knows - maybe they decide to make a hard switch at some point in the future.

@shadowsonawall I was being a bit facetious and clickbaity with the title lol but it was a WIP. The main goal of my post is asking for research to include in the video. But as I've been writing out the script, it's been getting way too long--I think I will do one today about why twitter is terrible and why you should delete yours, then another in the future about alternatives, then a third about what's good and bad about mastodon and why others should try it.

I really don't generally put a lot of research in my videos--it takes a lot of time and energy, and I don't pretend to be a journalist or anything, just a regular person with opinions (lol). But I really want to encourage people to know the reality of why staying on twitter is so dangerous. Plus it's just so much healthier off of there! I remain nervous to see how many new twitter users here change the culture, though...
