@kara@witchcraft.cafe @KaylinEvergreen fuck, now I'm vividly picturing some dipshit exec talking to John Carpenter and asking if there can't be a hot young blonde in her twenties there inexplicably to add "character"
@BernieTB I'm not sure if it's just me, but there seems to be a real dearth of local TV right now. I'd be happy to try anything that isn't another season of Rake
@BernieTB oh cool, that sounds potentially pretty interesting. I'll have to check it out!
@kara@witchcraft.cafe @KaylinEvergreen I fucking love The Thing. Horror at its absolute best: every character does the most sensible thing they could at every step, and it's just not enough to get them out alive
@BernieTB what is it? A doco?
@squid seems to have deleted his account, sadly. All I remember is him being weirdly sympathetic to atomwaffen, and everyone mocking him for this:
@squid oh man, Jacob wohl used to hang out on a slack I'm on and his posting was sooooo bad
Signal is testing out a new feature that encrypts message metadata. Once it's widely deployed, their server will facilitate delivering messages but without having access to who is sending them
@fosdem That “free” word you keep using refers to “freedom”.
”We aren’t selective about about sponsors and sources of donations” is tone-deaf, reckless, & simply not acceptable in 2018 for any group that seeks legitimacy in the ethics of what they do.
Palantir develops open source (https://palantir.github.io) and also helps ICE find & deport asylum seekers. By your (lack of) ethical standards, they would be welcome as a sponsor.
Please see https://fundingmatters.tech and review your stance on this.
@BernieTB trying to figure out if that's better or worse than my shamefully unsaved eternal notepad++ to-do list
Mandela Effect
@natecull I get the same thing in a slightly weaker form from Brits: "So, do you celebrate Christmas in winter or in December?" is a question I've heard more than once. Incoherent cultural plurality seems to be a real challenge for those not born into it
There's something about good body horror that I just love: it's clever and creative, can demonstrate real technical competence in film making, but at the same time it's normally far enough removed from reality to avoid being genuinely disturbing
@skulljudenfreund that's fucking metal I love it \m/
@MySideIsHumanity Dutch is fun like that: I don't speak it, but if you adopt the mindset of a toddler making funny sounds it's actually pretty easy to understand simple words and sentences
Anyway, there was lots of stuff like that. I get that it's a replica, but I just don't see why you'd go to the effort of building a big fake boat (pictured) without making at least a plausible effort on the rigging.
(to those who followed me for chemistry or whatever: it'll come back, but please try to empathise with my boat disappointment)
