Hey #FediBookFair ,
I’m a SF writer writing in French published by @pvheditions . My books are under a CC By-SA license and available in every bookshop in France, Switzerland, Belgium.
My new novel, "Bikepunk" was released a few days ago (think Mad Max with bikes, written on an old typewriter).
See the #bikepunk hashtags and https://bikepunk.fr/
We are looking for partnership with #publishers in other countries to spread translations of the books.

Great piece on BlueSky and enshittification by @pluralistic. “I will never again devote my energies to building up an audience on a platform whose management can sever my relationship to that audience at will.”

Hear me out: A whole tv series about medieval toffs dealing with the rise of republics and the lowborn plebs (including bouzhe artisans and merchants) who presume to supplant their authority with popular consensus and one thing they bitch about is the threat of this phenomenon to relieve them of capricious power to enact the king's will sans any skill or talent and simply because they were born into the right house, and all this is so we can do a running joke about "Chancel Culture."
@Framasoft @lemonde youtube en tâche de fond sur mobile, blocage de traqueurs, manipulation de l'user agent pour contourner les pratiques obsolètes des sites... Je ne manque pas de raisons pour l'utiliser 😊

Big news: I'm working with @criccomini on a second edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications! An early release of the first 3 chapters is now available: https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/designing-data-intensive-applications/9781098119058/ (O'Reilly Learning subscribers only at this point) and we're hoping to finish it next year.
The overall structure and philosophy remains unchanged, but we're bringing it up-to-date with new technical developments, and polishing the presentation with things we've learnt since I wrote the first edition a decade ago.

increasingly unhinged facts:
- there is an HBO documentary about bitcoin
- it shows some IRC logs from 2013
- the IRC logs are using the interface from a website i've been maintaining since ~2011
- the IRC messages in the HBO documentary aren't on my website
- because i've added the channel in 2015
- the screenshot of my website appears to have a bit of irssi edited into it using image manipulation software??
would you use bioengineering to turn your milk glands into glands that produce spider silk?

Practically speaking also, I reserve my right to simply be afraid enough of cars that I do not want to cycle around goddamn SAN DIEGO where one of my friends had a life-changing brain injury from being hit by a car on their bike. I hate these "be the change" takes and these "be brave about confronting cars" takes. Like, what?!? I'm Being The Change by staying alive??? Being scared of cars is sensible.
