Today, President Biden will sign the Respect for Marriage Act. It will nullify the odious act known as DOMA, which had enshrined anti LGBTQ+ prejudice and discrimination into law.
Federal recognition of same sex marriages, by statute, is an important safeguard, but we must still do more. We must now enshrine the protections of Obergefell into law, so that no state can deny same-sex couples the rights and privileges afforded heterosexual married couples.
Happy weekend everyone!

The incoming GOP majority is going to try and discredit the work of the Jan. 6 Committee. Remember the courage of honorable conservatives like Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger when the extremists begin their assault. They had nothing to gain by opposing their party and Trump, and everything to lose. But they stood up anyway for the rule of law and for democracy.
I am thankful for the people in my life who actually engage and create a meaningful connection back. Too often on social media and in person we experience people who have little to no concern for us. Today I am thankful for the meaningful bi-directional relationships in my life. Some of us may not talk every day or even for longer but I know I've got you and you've got me back.

Squinting at a graph is fine for getting a rough idea of the answer, but if you want to pretend to know it exactly, you neeed statistics.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.
The thing about Twitter is that it really lacks a lot of the features you'd expect from a true Mastodon replacement.
For example, there's no way to edit your toots (which they, confusingly call "tweets"—let's face it, it's a bit of a silly name that's difficult to take seriously).
"Tweets" can't be covered by a content warning. There's no way to let the poster know you like their tweet without also sharing it, and no bookmark feature.
There's no way to set up your own instance, and you're basically stuck on a single instance of Twitter. That means there's no community moderators you can reach out to to quickly resolve issues. Also, you can't de-federate instances with a lot of problematic content.
It also doesn't Integrate with other fediverse platforms, and I couldn't find the option to turn the ads off.
Really, Twitter has made a good start, but it will need to add a lot of additional features before it gets to the point where it becomes a true Mastodon replacement for most users.
Twitter was special. But it's time to leave

#Mastodon features that #Twitter doesn’t have:
* Temporary muting (e.g. for a day)
* Self-verified URLs in the profile
* Hiding spoilers etc. via content warnings
* URLs must start with protocols (fewer false positives, e.g. in code).
* Everyone can edit posts (in v4+).
* No ads (which doesn’t come for free = donate if you can afford it)
More obscure: I like that you can search for post URLs to “transfer” them between accounts.
My name is Steven and photography has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. That passion sparks from a long family heritage of creative artists including painters, lapidary, quilters, stained glass, videographers, authors, musicians, and photographers. Living at the foot of the Colorado Rocky Mountains has given me a great appreciation for the natural world around us and I want to share some of that beauty, texture, and detail with all of you.
#introduction
Bitcoin's early boosters touted its privacy protections as a game-changer, a way for people to exchange money with one another without anyone else being able to know about it. But the reality is a lot more complex. In a very important way, Bitcoin is the opposite of private: every transaction is indelibly inscribed upon the blockchain, linked to pseudonymous identifier.
