One thing I don’t get about this whole fediverse thing: it’s a global network, but there exist specialty servers that would make sense to join for particular interests. But in general I do not want to have multiple identities.

Is there a way to “join” a mastodon server without signing up and splitting identities?

@adam the “mast” app on iOS and macOS has a way to add and view “Instance Timelines” which would be like going to a different instance and showing their local timeline.

@sudorandom that’s useful. I think the answer to the the overarching question is: don’t fret about the local discovery and just engage where it makes sense. I’m totally ok with that — but I wasn’t sure if I was missing a fundamental concept, you know?

@adam totally. How it all works is kind of new for everyone crossing over. But it’s also fun and new! Maybe we’ll see more investment into this platform so discoverability may improve, I hope!
