GOOD: Ford reverses plan to ditch AM radio after congressional attention. //
Now the other automakers that had plans to drop AM need to reverse. Glad

The overlook at Pu’u O Kila Lookout on Kauai is always a site to behold. On a clear day the dramatic aged volcanic cliffs, lush vegetation, and ocean views of Kalalau Valley are a feast for the eyes. This valley used to have many terraced kalo farms tended by Native Hawaiians but is now a a state wildlife preserve.

I saw 14 flying fish on the ferry yesterday. I say 14 because I freaked the fuck out at every single one of them. Each one was a mind blowing spectacle of evolution. Could not BELIEVE how far they flew out of the water. Wish I had a video for ya but I was too busy losing my shit.

Conwell's career began at a time when women were largely locked out of academia. Aside from a few stints as a visiting professor (Ecole Normale Supérieure in 1962, then MIT in 1972), she spent most of her career in Industry and places like Bell Labs.

Esther Conwell accepted her first permanent academic position in 1998, when she joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Rochester. She was in her mid-70s and had been running a National Science Foundation center there since 1991.

Somebody stole the wheels off my car and I will work tirelessly to get them back.

Me: You’re not allowed in the living room, pal.

Dog: Dude, I don’t know which one’s the living room. I studied particle physics in college, not interior design, FFS.

Fantastic time watching the inaugural first game of @FlowerCity1872 Women's Team AND the @FlowerCityUnion Men's Team play yesterday!

It arrives. Happy day. The Gutenberg Parenthesis.

***** When Google Doesn't Care *****

Why am I pushing a "Users' Bill of Account Rights" now? While this does not apply only to #Google, I frankly am deeply tired of people coming to me desperate, pleading, for help trying to restore access to locked out Google accounts. Google won't respond to them. They ask who they can talk to? Who can they PAY? Personal and business emails, precious photos, files. They trusted Google. They followed the rules. They did nothing illegal. And they've lost access to everything. To Google, they're just in the noise at Google scale.

It's been this way at Google since the firms' start, but over the years Google has encouraged ordinary, nontechnical people to trust them more and more. And that usually works great, until something goes wrong.

Up to now, I've sometimes been able to informally help in these situations, via contacts at Google. But even that has become much more difficult. This is getting worse, not better.

Google has the resources -- money and smart minds -- to solve these problems. This is not rocket science, or even computer science. There are straightforward ways to make this far better for Google users otherwise locked out and left to swing in the wind. The sad fact is that Google simply don't consider them to rise to the level worth helping.

This must change now. -L
