I'm reading Soft City by Jonathan Raban and loving it. Why is sociology laughed at by other academic subjecst when it is all about gaining human insight? His past as an English Literature teacher really helps him get into the psyche of modern city life.
Not much has changed fundamentally since the 1970s and I think not much would have to be added to bring the book into the internet age. Similar outlooks and fashions apply, just more exptreme.
The Birdsite feels thinner and thinner. But it also still has no promoted content for me. I wonder how follower numbers are going for the bigger accounts.

I know we're all talking about the birdsite still, but I'm stewing on FB today. I just keep thinking about @pluralistic's thread (https://mamot.fr/@pluralistic/109388476395017478) and how it is virtually impossible to disengage from the service. They chase us and hound us whether we choose it or not, and it is just infuriating.
