Apparently they refused to defederate some fascist instance and got blocked by a lot of instances, pleaded via email to many Admins, and got a bunch of hate.
I still could not figure out what triggered the original issue. I got the feeling that it's a reasonable normal instance whose admin chose to die on a particularly unfortunate hill... But I don't want to spend hours digging to be honest.
it's much worse than that : the fascist instance trolled qoto and the federation folks fell for it , but some (like 1 or 2 people) cant admit they were wrong and it's a whole childish thing on their part, completely. the fact it's lasted this long is just cringe it's embarrassing for them i'm sure, hence their behaviour, but one of these days they'll have to take responsibility for their behavior and everything will be fine again, i guess. it's one of these with a lot of humiliated egos i guess (not an expert)
