All the videos I see of foreigners go to DPRK they pretend like everything is strange and wacky. But, it's all really quite normal. These foreigners always acting. I don't know why there is a desire to make it so exotic. It's really disrespectful.

@adiz what’s normal about dprk ?

@adiz well they had to redesign their military posters because malnutrition changed the body type of people , and everyone has to have a radio turned on to state channels , and there’s the whole thing where it’s a closed country full of violence … just off the top of my head , but also if you like at how their government behaves … I mean nothing seems « normal » to me , but then again I’m on mastodon and they’re not allowed access to internet … etc etc

@tonic@qoto.org Well they're also one of the only counties completely besieged by the Western superpowers, purposefully isolated and excluded from trade or the ability to develop and participate within global markets. They can't get anything in or out, when they attempt to they're attacked, and their allies (like PRC) are harassed for assisting them with needed resources. They're a mountainous country without much arable land. They are under constant threat of military attack ever since the United States sought to annihilate them in the 50s.

Maybe their contemporary existence is more representative of their material and historical conditions vs. anything to do intrinsically with them or their form of government?

@adiz 😆😆😆😆 dprk is a pretend country full of weapons that spends its time and ressources producing drugs and crime for export

@adiz same with China by the way : everything is pretend and people there are really getting rekked lol

@tonic@qoto.org You are welcome to believe whatever reality you desire. "Any color you like".

@adiz well it’s not a belief if it’s measurable 😉 hope you enjoy where you live because I guess it’s neither one of those violent places 🤔🤔

@tonic@qoto.org You don't know anything about China. Come to visit, maybe you can change your perception!

@adiz I’ve been there + invited by the government - just to steal my work , but I was laughing and gave it to them easily 😅🤷🏻‍♂️ my colleagues are not so happy about the state-sponsored IP theft though , like you said : to each their own… and I was not impressed by the empty and half constructed buildings … but I was very impressed by the earthquake agency … now , anything that touches China is radioactive and all NGOs are banned … so … free Hong Kong 🇭🇰❤️
