Unpopular take: Threads is not that bad.
It is a bridge between us on Mastodon and our friends used to old boring social media platforms, and is the first adoption of the ActivityPub on a non-niche platform while keeping perfect interoperability with it.
Even #Bluesky in its "openness" is basically an opposing standard (and currently login-walled?), whereas Threads at least tries to connect with the existing communities out here.

@tuxdevices It all depends on whether they ACTUALLY come through with federation. That’s to say, fully featured and interoperable. If they do, then I’ll give them some (begrudging) kudos.
