I thought this paper by Pacheco et al. was interesting, showing how mobile PI(4,5)P2 is on the plasma membrane. Surprisingly PIP2 is highly mobile even when engaged with e.g. clathrin machinery. Nice use of SPT/TrackMate and reporters to examine lipid distribution in the membrane.
Note: I'll try to boost interesting #cellbiology papers occasionally. Join me! Maybe we can use the #paperotd paper of the day hashtag of yesteryear.
White people who want to engage with actual solutions: I am a fan of @schock’s work and suggestions and she makes some important interventions here: https://mastodon.lol/@schock/109383950563020172
#BlackMastodon if you’re wanting to find one another, we have to boost one another. Not unlike twitter’s early years, it took awhile for people to find one another. It doesn’t help that the desktop version has more features, is a bit easier to navigate than using some of the mobile apps — at least on the #iOS side. (Remember, that was a shortcoming on early twitter too.) It’ll happen. #BlackTwitter #twitterMigration
The emergence of external peer review in the mid-20th century was enabled by the photocopier.* How can new technologies further improve scientific publishing? Help us map the space in preparation for a meeting next year! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xGvFTIXgwgIzaoos6IHxWQVgcrbetqyZSt7MSgFeInI/edit#gid=0 cc @PracheeAC

#introduction:
I'm here following my #ScienceTwitter crew on this #TwitterMigration. Hoping we can all reconnect. I run a group at MIT diving deep into the immunological underpinnings of some of the most misunderstood and neglected chronic diseases in modern medicine. I specialize in chronic #Lyme and I'm also trying to understand why that looks so much like long COVID. I'm obsessed with mucosal immunology, sex differences in immune responses to infectious disease, and the health of this planet.
Last week, I attended a University meeting involving buildings in science. I ask about where we could find space for childcare. When I have done this in previous meetings. I’m stared at like I am a unicorn. This time I got a response and the rest of the too erupted into nervous laughter.
See, I’m making progress. Sigh.

Also, reviewers please try to refrain from productivity arguments during the COVID times.
@nancylwayne @meredithwadman is interested in both, and sometimes they overlap. Here is a list of her recent stories. https://www.science.org/content/author/meredith-wadman
Good to see law schools leaving the US News rankings, but unclear whether full universities will join in.
The sentiment expressed by a university president in the article “I hate the rankings, but unilateral disarmament is suicide” is a common argument against change, including in the science publishing industry. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/22/opinion/us-news-world-report-rankings.html?unlocked_article_code=5T5jZ02RWaJ4ZgSIX9KyYdhVEv7p69PEMgXbBZ7IWVKbuC3LXUwkv44gT_osUKrtA2hFdpYKoMdl32eyB-DsUJjMb_hPO-4-9Mod8816hT3KlwDaSXaUMHiput918bIhn-9gzMIpUODdnRIAmoyCnIHlqBL9NY75R3WpmNiCa7NVVpw6hlqoG0569NGjAcBaWRqZY14ZIcae2ioPU_wubEY_V8M81xs3fbZ8tbg8dfH-kNyabYA7VbSjpq3VyziPEIdhuEzS1nW_IrAPiTKHbTY42xj7GpxeTakjXmwoZ0C6mVPsA8OEAD7fgnmQPqM1e36NnM-b8DoU-tjv-9oRXTQBsJJvO_M&smid=share-url
Me, writing work emails after reading #JaneAusten:
“My dear Dr. Dashwood—
I trust that you and your graduate students remain in good health. Praise for your latest article is on everyone’s lips. I have not the smallest wish to vex you, but circumstances compel me to trouble you for a meeting. There is not a moment to be lost. I flatter myself that you will endeavour to fill out this Whenisgood poll before Michaelmas.
Until then I remain,
Your humble servant— S.” 🪶
Why drive 55? Why wear a seatbelt? Why drive sober? Why not smoke in restaurants, on airplanes? Why not piss & shit in the street and throw our garbage in the nearest alley? Why wash our hands? Because we value life. We cherish our neighbors. We learn. We do better. #publichealth #epidemiology
This week I will bring my granny’s love to our thanksgiving by making cornbread dressing! This recipe is very close! It’s the best food ever! https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/418-rich-cornbread-dressing?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share
