@jerry Not American here, I don't understand - why are they "doing the same thing over and over expecting different results"?
Many European systems have speaker/president votes that can be long and contentious, but when it's clear that someone doesn't have a majority, well - they move on to other names
@werner58 as an American, we are all wondering the same thing. I (incorrectly) assumed there would be productive negotiations after a failed vote and before the next. It’s really incredible.
@werner58 odd things have been happening lately when there is a narrow margin in the House or Senate - a small group, or even a single person - has come to realize they can hold the whole process hostage to get what they want
