In the audience for an interesting panel on net zero and the circular economy, which included a university prof, local government and a local food coop. I asked a question, cleary our civilisation isn't sustainable, so it could collapse. Universities and local government won't survive post-collapse, but hopefully a local food coop would. Is there room for optimism, on that basis?
They didn't really have an answer, only pointing out how fragile our civilisation is (which was already the basis of my question) and the sustainability professor didn't have an answer at all..
Seems a useful thing to think about though. It seems that coping with societal collapse is a familiar topic in radical tech circles but seems not a welcome topic in eco/sustainability/social enterprise circles.. Not sure what that says about either side.

@yaxu at home we have a whole category of jokes around the expectation of a sudden collapse. But outside I notice it sometimes annoys or confuses people. We have different coping mechanisms.
