Two observations on #recommendationalgorithms:

1. After hundreds of millions of dollars spent on development, it still seems like the best they can do is "here are 10 more things identical to what you just chose." Which hardly seems worth it.

2. The use of these algorithms has led to the elimination of straightforward #settings that we used to be able to adjust. I don't watch sports, but because of these algorithms, there is no way for me to "turn sports off" anymore.

Hat noch jemand das Problem, dass ein Profil bei jedem Logout wieder resettet wird? Also Farben, Menüs, Deck/Standard etc...

Beiträge werden auch nicht föderiert.

Vor gut einem Monat ging noch alles. Nun auf einmal nicht mehr.

Ich habe schon mehrere Browser, auch Chromium, probiert, Cache gelöscht, Cookies gelöscht. Kein Erfolg. Gleicher Bug in einem nagelneuen Profil.

So ist Sharkey leider nicht mehr nutzbar. Mir fällt nichts mehr ein.

Ha jemand noch eine Idee?

What are the best display settings in Linux Mint XFCE? I have been trying to find the optimal setting for the last few days and I cannot reach a comfortable compromise. Either too big or too small such that I cannot even read the writing in programs like OpenOffice or Mastodon.

#Firefox setting "Use recommended #performance #settings" may have adverse effects on #linux, at least on light-weight systems. I suspect that the reduction of available threads reaches a point where it cannot comfortably manage its many tasks. Additionally, having a proper scheduler in linux may mean that the vast majority of issues is already mitigated by capabilities of the linux #kernel.

It is worth trying to disable that setting and evaluate results.

When I reply in English to a thread that’s in another language (like German), Mastodon assigns my post the language of the thread, even though I’ve written in English and set English as my default.

This means other users (e.g. German speakers) won’t see the “Translate” option, because Mastodon thinks my post is already in their language.

Is there a way to force my posts to always be in English unless I manually change it?
