The chemical spill and train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio is a much bigger deal than most people think.
The rail company, Norfolk Southern, is trying to convince residents to take $1k each as "inconvenience" payments.
Railroad companies never willingly pay ANY money to ANYONE.
If they're willing to pay that much up front, it's probably very bad.
Vinyl Chloride
"Prolonged exposure to vinyl chloride can cause a set of symptoms that is characterized by Raynaud's phenomenon, joint and muscle pain and scleroderma-like skin changes. Vinyl chloride is a known human carcinogen and is associated with an increased risk of developing liver cancer, predominantly angiosarcoma of the liver, but is also linked to brain and lung cancer as well as cancer of the lymphatic and hematopoietic system."
@SMLP @kevinrns @forpeterssake seriously, that doesn’t even cover a family’s evacuation and lodging for a week, let alone any damages from the chemicals themselves. And how many of the residents do you think had PTO available? It’s not exactly an office hub. So EVEN if absolutely every substance turned out to be physically “harmless,” you’re still at a loss, not to mention traumatized and fearful of the safety of your water and soil going forward.
@AmberWavesofFlame @SMLP @forpeterssake
Get out, visit relatives.
The substance is EXTREMELY TOXIC. And long lasting.
