Muting the fedi "comrades" spamming the social equivalents of flat earther hot takes seems to have improved my inner peace and outlook on humanity when browsing. I know they still exist, but now they have about the same effect on me here as they do IRL - absolutely none.

Feels good man.

@Amikke, the scary thing about muting is that you remain deaf to the situation. Next thing you know, flat earth becomes the norm in schools.

@mgorny I used to think the same. The thing is, discussing with those people is pointless, they are way too far into their imaginary world, and way too much of their self-perception is based on the belief they are smarter/better by "understanding" the topic like the general populace doesn't, to be swayed by anything less than arguments from a person they really look up to, peer pressure applied over long time, or maybe a long course where all of their points consistently get proven wrong until they finally admit to themselves they may not be right.

Furthermore, they tend to make for a loud minority, creating the illusion that things are much worse than they actually are. If they ever get bad enough to majorly influence the rest of society I'll learn about it from more sensible sources than themselves.
