on the 5G scare

the vast majority of 5G frequency bands are in common use by other technologies already.

so as someone with technical knowledge of radio, it's absolutely bizarre that people have singled out 5G as a health hazard.

the funny thing is that 5G is largely based on 4G and nothing dramatic has changed. it can even share the same frequency bands.

it's been overhyped as new and revolutionary by phone makers and carriers, but only to make you buy new phones.

ever try 4G in an area with good coverage? it can often match or exceed cable modem speeds.

@lore Doesn’t #5G use more powerful waves than #4G? That’s where the scare comes from, as generally, the more powe the waves you send out, the greater risk you run of getting cancer.

Of course they also leave out that more powerful waves transmit at shorter distances 💁🏾‍♂️

@realcaseyrollins @lore Light waves are even stronger, yet people don't live in darkness.

@colinsmatt11 @lore Most light waves don’t cause cancer, do they? They also tend not to pass through objects well.

@realcaseyrollins @lore @colinsmatt11 neither do 5G waves. The way EM radiation causes cancer is by ionising and breaking DNA bonds, for which it needs to be of ultraviolet frequency and above. Visible light and anything below simply doesn't have that effect no matter the power.
