@icedquinn @kaia @Jens_Rasmussen american propaganda / stupid view on the rest of the world, Europe absolutely cares about free speech and only a couple of outlier countries limit it for extreme cases. (Like openly urging to violence, which is the case in the US too.) Similarly with religion, religious freedom is treated very seriously. (Probably more than in the US, since there it’s mostly a mask to let protestants do whatever they want, including where it infringes on freedom of other religions.)

The European Union does not have a monopoly on what country is considered European either. Keep in mind that plenty of this shit happened while being an EU member too and may even have origins in it. Sadly in Britain the powers that be are controlled by the same masters, regardless of political party. There are ongoing conflicts inside the conservative party there to try and regain control from the blairite faction, but they have a ton of power.
Doesn't help that london and its police are effectively a nation unto themselves (and a foreign one these days too). More annoyingly is most local police forces try to model themselves after the london MET, which is why lots of the unjust arrests happen
