Does anyone have a good link about the energy use and environmental impact of LLMs?

I’m trying to learn these tools in general and for coding in particular, but I’ve picked up concerns about energy use. I want to have some specifics for conversations about it.

@CodingItWrong

FWIW, I strongly suspect that the power consumption aspect of this is a red herring. I'm more concerned that:

- the process is completely unauditable

- the models are trained on stolen data

- the business endgame is to create a monopolistic SAS

- if successful, it will bring about a world where humans are freed from creative work so that they can get back to drudge work.

@suetanvil @CodingItWrong AI is freeing people from creative work like photo cameras freed painters from creative work. It's eliminating the less creative parts and leaving in the more creative ones.
AI can fulfill a "draw a dog with a pumpkin on its head" request, not "design a monument for the 100th anniversary of our independence" one.
