To defend against Russian tanks, Finland and Poland consider restoring wetlands

Finland and Poland are both considering rewetting dried out peatbogs to form defence barriers against a potential Russian ground invasion. Restoring these natural carbon sinks could also bring significant environmental benefits.

@eunews Russia isn't going to invade Finland or Poland. In 3 years of war Russia has taken roughly one fifth of Ukraine, inc Crimea. Four fifths is still unconquered. That isn't a military that's then going to go on to invade two NATO countries.

While the use of fear mongering is to push public opinion in favour of increased military spending, the threat itself isn't real.

@Rastal @eunews да, товарищ. Russia is too weak to try invading, please don't arm yourself more, please please.

We're talking about a country insane enough to perform the invasion and keep at the war despite all of the failures and losses. Assuming rationality is not the way to go, making sure to thwart any possible attempt is. Especially if it's done in a way beneficial to the ecology.
