@AmpBenzScientist
Except for maybe not surviving crashes very well and not huge velocities, I have sentiment for how auto industry used to be.

50 years livability, home fixable by a plumber, you could repaint it in craziest ways without losing warranty, you didnt have to disassemble 50% to change a bulb and average mcd employee could buy one for a weekly fee.

@yukiame

@PawelK @yukiame It had good fuel economy too. I do have training as an Automotive Technician and I've worked on heavy equipment for most of my life. The electronics used on board modern vehicles are what I despise most. I would be very open to replacing the black boxes with something open source and open hardware.

@PawelK @yukiame The most difficult part would be getting the replacement to pass regulations. The rest of the system would be rather easy to implement.
Something like a Throttle Body Fuel Injection system would be easy to retrofit to older vehicles. There's the Holly EFI system that does this for around $5,000.

@PawelK @yukiame If you wanted to start a company making ECUs just slap "For off road use only." on the box and in the instructions for getting away from that nonsense. There is a market for such things.
