RTX 4070 actually seems great for a midrange later gen upgrade. Especially with new gen features and larger VRAM. One of the main reasons is the power draw and 8-pin connections on partner cards. Guess I’ll see firsthand soon.
@thendrix You might be able to get better performance in the future from it. Nvidia swapped the Falcon core for a GSP based on RISC-V(NV-RISC-V). It's currently being used in the Tesla series and offers quite the boost in performance. They are planning on implementing it across the lineup as the Teslas have seen performance improvements from this. It seems to be physically present but not enabled in firmware on other cards.
The card should have the GSP and it should be possible to enable it in the firmware but it's probably best to wait for the official firmware update that enables it. It should allow higher GPGPU performance and better power control.
I’m on 525 already. If they make a stable ‘move engine’ or AMM like API I’m all for it, but not looking for one-off solutions for my current project.
BTW Looked up when they started exposing it and it was 510 series:
Some GPUs include a GPU System Processor (GSP) which can be used to offload GPU initialization and management tasks. This processor is driven by the firmware file /lib/firmware/nvidia/510.39.01/gsp.bin. A few select products currently use GSP by default, and more products will take advantage of GSP in future driver releases. Offloading tasks which were traditionally performed by the driver on the CPU can improve performance due to lower latency access to GPU hardware internals.
