The Scandinavian languages are not exactly subtle. I mean, you can try to be subtle, but their nature is to be obvious and unsexy. You say it as it is. English has a lot of polite words that conceal and paper things over. Not so much with the Scandinavian languages. We don't even have a word for "subtle". I don't know how to translate that, even though I know what it means. I'd have to use a loanword from Latin such as "indirekte". Or a figure of speech such as "gå rundt grøten" (walk round the porridge), but that's a criticism. Walking round the porridge is not encouraged.
