Allllllriiiiiiight, hold the phone there, LeeRoy. Do you have any idea just how long ago Descartes was? And how are your kids, are they "fitting in"? I'll bet your teens don't think they do, and the reason I brought this up is because of some nonsense that just arrived in my news feed on here.
Force-fitting people into category pigeonholes is apparently the business of #philosophy and what just came down the pike is #PhilosophyOfScience which is pretty much an oxymoron.
Science is the finding of fact that stands up to testing, and that's why we have forensic science, and it's science's business to classify THINGS into cubbyholes, phyla, genus, & whatnot, while the philosopher thinks he/she can do that with people.
The problem philosopher is a person who pigeonholes people into stoic, rightist, leftist, regardless of how dynamic society changes even after lo, these many centuries. People who pigeonhole other people are toxic, so no wonder your kids feel like they don't fit in. They're not pigeons.

A scientist, organically, yes. A scientist, Inorganically, no. Humanity hoi polloi defies pigeonholing. The best you can hope for with humanity hoi polloi is demographics. Loosely.
@ClaraListensprechen4 true, and even then it's often more illuminating to learn the ways an individual *diverges* from their demographic, rather than their commonalities with it.
@wouldinotcallmyselfahumanbeing
Ah. I see we have arrived at a point of agreement. Although people might fit into this or that demographic, demographics are not people any more that "rightist" or "leftist" is. There are no such people. The people there are might fit into the spectrum between those extremes, but those extremes aren't people.
@ClaraListensprechen4 pretty sure a 'putting things in boxes person' is a taxonomist
