The same arguments people are making about #gab were made about bitcoin
"You use bitcoin? I read on some article bitcoin is popular with drug dealers & criminals, it's a criminal tool. We need to ban bitcoin, and anyone who uses cyptocurrency is a drug dealer by association!"
"You're on GAB? I read on some article gab is popular with racists. It's a platform for racists. We need to ban gab. Anyone who uses gab is a nazi!"
These low IQ arguments have been made dozens of times. Once a tool gives people freedom, people freak out. It's happend with the internet, email, ebay, uber, bitcoin, bittorrent, the printing press, VHS recorders, radio casset recorders.. You guys are on the wrong side of history lol
@DavidBond @a Same argument is used with guns, Tor, and torrents, haha
@DavidBond those arguments and recommendations from youtubers made me check out gab. Now it's my main social media.
@DavidBond Wait tile they figure out tools and computers are becoming the same thing & anybody can make anything they want from chunks of metal & filaments of plastic
@DavidBond
Most people wants free expression.
People must be allowed to express their concerns about how the society is developing. When the major platforms don't allow them that, they will find other ways of expression.
As said in Jurassic Park "Life (humans), Uh, Finds a Way"
@DavidBond "You vape? I heard it's even worse for you in almost every way."
"You Keto? I heard it shuts your body down"
"You voted for a non-politician president? That's the only thing more corrupt than a politician."
And on and on and on and on.....
@DavidBond meanwhile racists stream their terror attacks on Facebook and drug dealers use dollars or HSBC to move their money. There is also a special mention to the CIA actually funding some drug cartels in Central America.
@DavidBond Everytime someone gets banned on T or F, is an opportunity for a new subscriber.
@DavidBond It's like when they banned absinth because it wasn't controlled by the big grape growers.
David, I think that rather than being on the wrong side of history, we are on the right side of the future. *<twinkles>* @DavidBond
@DavidBond Freedom represents the unknown, which is mankind's oldest and greatest fear
Gab will become mainstream before Bitcoin 🤣@DavidBond
@DavidBond
You see the pattern, too. Yep!
@DavidBond The difference is that Gab is a fundamentally good idea, and Bitcoin is a fundamentally bad idea. (Any database which *must* grow without bound, *especially* if it is to be widely distributed and robustly available, is a bad idea. It can also never be cheap, as we've seen just a few weeks ago, when bitcoin transaction costs spiked to over US$6.00 again. Bitcoin is not, and never can be the answer, for the simple reason that things that can't go on forever, won't!
same arguments:"Wait, what was that you said? RACIST" @DavidBond
If GAB is so hated by the fucking left like FACE BOOK GOOGLE TWITTER hates GAB and the libertards bash it why does the FEDEVERSE keep trying to stop it. They all know FB, Google and TWITTER will soon go way of the old social platforms like MYSPACE or be broken up...people are moving to TWITTERS competitor what is it Parler @DavidBond
I just read the rules at qoto.org, David Bond's Mastodon host. It begins with "No racism, No censorship, Just kind people who speak their mind."
Well, which is it? No racism? Or no censorship? Some kinds of censorship are just common sense, not really censorship at all? Right. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
https://billstclair.com/racism-is-a-right.html (don't judge on just the title, read to see what I really mean by that)
@billstclair it's not my host.
Well, you don't run it, but you use it. At least that what I see in your nick. And that's what I meant. Sorry if you thought I was assigning responsibility to you for their policies.
@billstclair qoto.org is not blocked by the large instances, I use this host to see posts outside of gab.
Makes sense. I have an account at accela.online for just that purpose, and to have a Pleroma instance against which to test my code.
@DavidBond the same argument was also made about the internet in its early days.
