So what you're saying is that I have to login on the console (gdm) otherwise the computer will go to sleep after 20 minutes and prevent me logging in using ssh - or playing media, or using the webserver, or logging mqtt, or ...

WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST BACKGROUND PROCESSES, #GNOME DEVELOPERS?

@dan
Yeah I recently moved back to KDE because of this kind of stuff. I tried it years ago and didn't like it, but it was actually quite usable this time.

@Demosthenes@qoto.org I put gnome on this box mostly for consistency with my laptop (Wayland hidpi fractional scaling, at which KDE didn't seem to be too hot when I tried it) plus vague and entirely unrealised thoughts that I could learn the mutter APIs and customise it to work how I actually want

@dan@terse.telent.net @Demosthenes@qoto.org basically I still miss sawfish, but I don't think there's much hope of ever seeing that support hidpi usefully
