I really don't understand what's so interesting in these kind of anime protagonist. Literally borderline incel bait.

Girl is somehow magically interested in the MC, she gives him a present for Christmas (after he spent the entire day literally STALKING her and he subsequently gets found out), and he starts bawling his eyes out in the middle of the street because he had never received a present from a girl before.

Is this supposed to be appealing? Are we supposed to sympathise with this person? Even if I was a loser (which I am not 😎) why would I find this kind of behavior even remotely to watch?

@morg
It appeals to incels, of which there are a growing number in Japan.
Most popular movies are merely projections of common fantasies.

@Demosthenes True, I agree that's definitely the target audience but even then from the various so-called "incels" I've had the pleasure (?) to talk to online, it seems like they themselves are not self-aware enough to realize they are in the same situation, or at least they think they are above that kind of stuff. Maybe it's different for Japanese incels but for westerners I think it's more on the red-pill/MTGOW side of things where they think they are superior to women relationships anyway and they aren't at that level of "loser-ness" :|
