I'm also curious about the psychological health of the workers at mega farms. There are too many stories about them turning to violence and being aggressive towards the animals they are supposed to be caring for. Also neglecting them. How does someone become like that? What sort of stress are they under? Are the working conditions causing them to suffer too?

@sim
The job filters for people who don't empathize with the animals. If someone cared about the animals, they wouldn't work there long.
Conversely, the ones likely to stay the longest are the ones who enjoy the environment, eg psychopaths with no empathy that like to(and have the freedom to) inflict pain.

@Demosthenes Yeah, I can imagine it would feel hopeless for someone going in there wanting to care for the animals. They'd have to quit. I doubt the workers are given much support in tending to the animals.
