Hope everyone is enjoying the #weekend !Continuing with my busy #saturday… the 6 year old is off to his dads so I’m off to the Northcotte theatre at #exeteruniversity with my 21 year old daughter to watch the #opera (never been to one before, not sure what to expect 😬). This is the joy of having a 15 year age gap between kids! Soft play and park in the morning, opera in the evening, never a dull moment!! 🤔😆
@helengregory hi! Yes I did thank you! I was surprised, I didn’t think I would, and I was worried when I saw that the first half alone was 105 minutes 😆 but it was very enjoyable, helped by the really good performances from the English touring opera company! It was “Tamerlano” 😀
@helengregory is there a reason they’re not very often performed?
@DrK because the main opera companies play it safe and programme the big favourite operas as they tend to bring in more audience: La Boheme, Carmen, La Traviata, Madame Butterfly etc… I personally think audiences would soon find the lesser known repertoire is amazing.
@helengregory ahh I see, As a complete opera novice I had no idea the Handel ones weren’t so popular! I’ll definitely be keeping a look out for any more performances locally!
@DrK ah Handel operas are great, and not very often performed! Thankfully ETO programme them in a lot!
