Lots of discussion here of whether #Mastodon is fundamentally good or could become like the birdsite.

But the #fediverse isn’t one or the other. The network is whatever we make it.

@Sheril But who is "we"? Who decides which much-requested features - like toot-quoting - are enabled and which aren't? So far it feels like having traded Elon for Eugen essentially - is there even a board of lead coders? And who elected them? And how can we users articulate ideas to move on?

Anyone with coding ability can create an instance that implements a feature, like say QT's, then people will got here or restrict it as they wish. Several instances have done this with various features. Sometimes it catches on.

Eugen is the most influential, but he maintains that by good service. It's open source, no one owns or controls Mastodon.
