So y'all, how prepared are you for disasters? Say, power cut, no food on the shelves, broken central heating, broken water pipes. The stuff that will really happen, not prepper crap like zombies or nukes. The beginning of the pandemic taught new to keep at least a month's supply of food, I now have backup electric heating and a gas camping cooker. The most difficult thing would be water, I have a backup bottle but that will only last for a day or two
@piggo I always have quite more than a month of food because I want to be able to be lazy for a while or not be in a bind if I get sick or if there is strikes.
Also I have some gaz in my garage (house without city-gaz kind, camping stuff barely lasts), plus your regular bunch of camping stuff.

Water would definitely be a problem here but not really something I can truly fix while renting a flat.
@lanodan hmm, large gas cylinders are scary, but at least you have a garage, that's nice. I probably have several months worth of rice, actually, but you can't eat just rice every day
@piggo Yeah, I wouldn't really put those in my flat, at least not more than one small one (I have two).

Other than rice, I have some months worth of lens, red beans, … plus few things in cans.
A thing I should also try is storing potatoes in the garage, should be consistently cold enough to avoid them growing.

@lanodan @piggo All good, but most difficult to eat without water (potatoes, hard grain, etc.). Perhaps stock up on oats or such, chocolate and cans, cans, cans. :-)

@lanodan Certainly, but it's easy to chew it dry too 😉 - unlike for instance rice.

@piggo

@FailForward @lanodan plain rolled oat flakes are used in some granola mixes, it works ... but needs a good amount of raisins and other goodies to be really edible xD

@piggo @lanodan When the apocalypse you are prepping in this thread for comes, you won't care about raisins, you'd care about accessible plain energy. If you are planning for the apocalypse with luxury & healthy foods in mind, something is badly off.

@FailForward @lanodan look how delicious food they make in India where it's basically unfit to support life due to pollution. I still think you can have tasty food during apocalypse, just plan ahead and keep a stockpile of fried fruit. It will be good for morale too

@piggo Your envisaged apocalypse sounds like heavens :-). I am afraid the real one won't agree. Anyway, happy prepping!
