Disclaimer: I haven't lived in Britain for nearly 56 years, though I still have family and friends there.
Perhaps the best solution is for the dissolution of the UK into four distinct countries that could then independently apply for EU membership?

@xises Both Scotland and Northern Ireland voted Remain and I think Wales was very close. So maybe only England would stay out.

@JamesHMcLaren
Stay out, or not be accepted back in? I think that there has to be a sea change in the politics in England before anyone takes them seriously. And I say that as an ex-Londoner.

@xises I think if the UK stayed together and wanted to get back in, the EU would say no, at least as long as the current government is in power, to avoid a repeat of the circus. Under a Labour government maybe it would be different, maybe not. If the UK did dissolve Scotland and NI would definitely apply to return to the EU posthaste. If England asked after a return after Scotland and NI were back in it would be tough for the EU to say no.
