@JonKramer @trammel @sbdivya I'll tell you one thing though, I shouldn't have jumped at the "you're doing this out of vanity and grandstanding" thing, since I don't know that. I just have seen a lot of people making serious issues about them when it's not about them. And I was annoyed because to me it tars the entire World Science Fiction Convention and the Hugos with one brush. But I apologize for jumping to that conclusion about you. I'm sure you're sincere.

I think winning and not attending would be a better choice. But, not my choice to make... And the rules for winning are unknown to me. You can possibly speak to that.
I think I took umbrage at the use of the words "virtue signalling". I think of that as a negative... Possibly because I was raised in a western nation. But the words themselves are not bad... But seem to be (mostly) used by those with bad intent. If that raising my hackles contributed to any misunderstanding, I apologize.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, John. My position is not meant to slander the Hugos or the fans, writers, and artists who choose to participate in WorldCon this year. I signed a petition last year, and I want to live by the spirit of my agreement to boycott this year's WorldCon & Hugos. I disclosed my withdrawal so I could thank those who nominated my story for the award, and to call attention to what I believe is immoral behavior by the Chinese gov't.
