Why do snakes avoid the atlantic
@hannah iirc, sea snakes first evolved in the Pacific, and the waters south of Africa and South America are too cold for them.
@marty @hannah , this seems to be the correct answer, as the venomous Hydrophiinae seem to have spread mostly in the last 5 million years. I had thought there were far older, because it seems so obvious for them to exist in the water...
