@ThinkingSapien Wow, they're making you go into the office and they can't even be bothered to assign you a proper desk? That's just insulting.
I think they plan to consolidate space and don't want any space dedicated to any one person.
In any case, I often work on solutions with physical elements, such as depth sensing cameras and touch screens.
Previously I had desks (plural) where I could set that up and leave it. That doesn't work when you have one desk that must be clear.
Quite true. Not only does going to the office damage my efficiency, in some cases it lowers my capability. I simultaneously use 3 computing devices (among other peripherals) for what I'm working on and I can't replicate this setup in the office, especially since we must clear what ever desk we used at the end of every day.
