"Just use Linux" is much like "just ride a bike" or "just shop at a refill store" - accessing the non default option can be time consuming, expensive or unavailable locally. We need to recognise you need a certain degree of privilege to have the capacity to complicate your life voluntarily. We need to be trying to make the better, harder thing more accessible, not blaming people for not using it.

@afewbugs

I understand your point, but I have to ask - what more would you like to see being done?

From a technical perspective, installing Linux is easier than Windows at this point. It's certainly no worse! What else should 'evangelists' be working on?

@LouisIngenthron

I've been able to put Ubuntu (Xubuntu, technically) on lots of stuff. My current desktop:

Mobo: ASUSTeK ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO (WI-FI)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
64GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
Mix of NVME and SATA drives
Dual 3440x1440 144Hz displays

The Win10 install it came with crapped out. Maybe from disuse.🤷‍♂️

Plenty of other machines, including laptops and desktops. (I admit the old 32-bit server gave me some hassle, but that's not a modern use-case.)

@LouisIngenthron

I've got four boys, they've all put together their own systems, they all have Windows install horror stories. Nothing unsolvable, but they've needed to search and experiment there, too.

(Most of them have had to 𝑟𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑙 Windows at some point, too. I think I had to do that once with Linux, a decade or so back. A RAM DIMM failed and corrupted stuff.)

Not sure why you're having those problems, you have my sympathies.
