Question about radioactive materials: My cat is getting radioiodine treatment. The vet says not to scoop her kitty litter into a trash bag because it will be RADIOACTIVE. Instead she told me to flush it down the toilet.

How is flushing radioactive waste into our sewers better than sticking it into a landfill?

Help me understand please?
